Artist’s Bio
Photograph by Tom Platinum Morley
Of Irish and Scottish descent, I was born in Ibadan, Nigeria and have lived and worked in England, Kenya and the Outer Hebrides. Currently working and living between Newark-on-Trent and Berwick-upon-Tweed.
My practice is exciting to me. I have aphantasia, no visual memory, no recollected conscious imagery, yet I have a wealth of life experience through travel and working as a doctor for 32 years. I am a spiritual person, and my art seems to be a key into my subconscious memory.
Having trained in oil painting I am currently exploring more mixed media techniques. My works are mostly small, and I plan to go large. I love expressive mark making and interesting optics. My process begins how many of the Surrealists began, with decalcomania, to which I have a vivid pareidolic response. I then paint with and toward what has been offered to me on my substrate.
Humanity is my compass.
